Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas — Texas Tech has successfully doubled the amount of federal research funds received by the university and has received more than $10,000,000 per year through Congressional earmarks each year since 1997. Some of these projects include:
- $2,000,000 from NIST for a wind damage research project
- $1,500,000 from NASA for long duration spaceflight research
- $1,500,000 from USDA for plant stress research
- $2,000,000 from HHS elderly population research
- $2,000,000 from HHS for diabetes research
- $5,000,000 from DOD for biological and chemical countermeasures research
- $3,000,000 from DOD for base cleanup of toxic wastes
Institute for Environment and Human Health at Texas Tech University:
- $11,000,000 over the past two fiscal years from DOD for a research program into biological and chemical weapons countermeasures and human health effects
- $6,000,000 from DOD over the past three years for environmental health research
- $2,000,000 from the Economic Development Administration (EDA) of the Department of Commerce for purchase of a supercomputer and virtual reality technology for modeling of environmental problems associated with closed military bases.
University of San Diego, San Diego, Ca. -- $10,000,000 in various campus development and education program funding through various agencies over several years.
Philadelphia University, Philadelphia, Pa. -- $8,000,000 for various campus development and research programs over several years.
Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, New York — more than $60,000,000 over 15 years for research and education projects.
Polytechnic University, Brooklyn, New York -- $10,000,000 for NASA research over several years.
The Infotonics Center of Excellence (a research partnership led by Corning Glass Corporation, Eastman Kodak Company, and Xerox Corporation) -- The Infotonics Center was awarded $12,000,000 in Congressionally earmarked federal grants for research and equipment through the budgets of the Department of Energy, NASA and the Small Business Administration.
Marymount University, Arlington, Va. -- $1,000,000 in FY 2001 for a public school-university teacher education project addressing the digital divide
